Instagram may announce a new long-form video feature, or potentially even a standalone app, near or on June 20. The news comes from a rumor published by TechCrunch, and follows another story suggesting Instagram will extend the amount of time videos published in the app can run for.

Following on from this, TechCrunch states anonymous sources say the extended length videos will also be used in a dedicated tab or app, showcasing work from creators. These videos will be pre-made, rather than extended duration videos make in the app itself.

This could see Instagram challenge Snapchat’s Discover section, and even YouTube. However, the details are still being worked out, and there’s no information on where the content will live in the main Instagram feed, if videos will be included in the Explore section, and whether a separate app will also house the new content.

Instagram’s new video platform isn’t official yet, and both the date for launch, and the feature itself could change.
