Snap is apparently in talks with publishers to launch a dedicated News tab for the Discover section of the app. Previously, news had been embedded alongside other entertainment details.
According to The Information, sources believe the News section could be rolled out in 2020.
The company has previously said that it wants to restructure Discover with CEO Evan Spiegel calling it a “supermarket without the aisles labelled.”
News from publishers such as the New York Times could soon be sitting alongside other news and no longer beside celebrity gossip.
The Snapchat app maker previously reported revenues of 48% to $388 beating estimates of $360 million. It also grew its userbase by 8%.
The company has been working to launch dedicated sections across its app and structure its products more neatly. Earlier this year, it announced a dedicated gaming platform.
A dedicated news tab may keep users happy to get ad revenue from publishers flowing.
Snap did not comment on the rumours.
