Alterations to functionality, features, and offers can seriously affect app download numbers, as illustrated by data related to MoviePass shows. Collected by Sensor Tower, MoviePass’s download numbers have fallen by 76% over the past three months, following controversial feature changes.
In June, MoviePass was being downloaded 6,500 times a day, but in the last week of August, this figure had dropped to just 1000 new daily downloads. In June, MoviePass introduced a high demand premium feature, then in July increased its prices, and in August it changed the amount of tickets available to users.
These three new features have contributed to the massive drop in installs, a trend which began at the beginning of 2018 with controversy surrounding user privacy, and the removal of its 1-ticket-per-day plan. When it reversed this decision, MoviePass saw a brief increase in installations, before taking a severe downturn.
Sensor Tower states MoviePass has a monthly compound growth rate of -19% in 2018.
