After a limited trial in Australia and Thailand, Facebook has announced it’s launching ads inside the Messenger app globally, giving brands a new way to engage with people. Ads will appear to Messenger users in the Home tab, and can include links to an external page or source, which can include another Messenger conversation tab.
Messenger ads will be available to developers and marketers already using Facebook’s Ads Manager, or Power Editor tools, plus statistics from campaigns will be shown in Facebook’s Traffic and Conversion charts. The Messenger ads also work in any automatic placement campaigns running.
Facebook’s implementation of Messenger ads looks a lot like ads that appear in the News Feed, and share similarities with Twitter’s in-lne ads. Facebook Messenger has 1.2 billion monthly active users, which alongside WhatsApp makes it one of the most used personal messaging platforms in the world.
