Facebook has doubled down on its ad transparency, allowing users to see why they were targeted with an ad and which businesses are seeing their data.

The ‘Why am I seeing this ad?’ tool was originally introduced four years ago across Facebook.

Previously it showed users why they had been targeted with an ad pertaining to their demographic information or website visits. Now, users can dig a little deeper and find more detailed targeting such as their interests which may match an ad.

At the same time, the social network has updated its Ad Preferences to help users find out more about the businesses that target them.

Users will be able to view two lists: advertisers who uploaded their information to advertise to them such as a fitness studio which may have uploaded an email address to advertise to its clients.

The second tab includes businesses who shared information, but also highlights third parties who may have uploaded and shared lists with user information.
