App Store Demos for Google Play Instant apps grow rapidly in emerging markets

AppOnboard, the mobile app demo tech and analytics platform, today revealed that its App Store Demos have seen widespread adoption worldwide ever since they launched in late August 2018.

The technology essentially lets app users try out the apps and games they’re interested in before committing to download, and all directly from within the Google Play Store.

Letting users trial apps before downloading also has some seriously positive effects on the quality of app users. For example, users who engaged with an App Store Demo before installing an app were found to have 32% higher retention times on the first day of download and 29% after a week. They were also more likely to become paying users (44% day 1, 37% day 7).

Ben Frenkel, Product Manager at Google praised the App Store Demo technology as being “one of the driving factors for this growth”. He added that “many developers have leveraged App Store Demos to enable their Google Play Instant apps quickly and without needing to dedicate their own engineering resources.”

The technology boasts a series of benefits such as the automated creation process, minimal technological requirements, higher Google Play Store page conversions and user lifetime value. In addition, the solution also comes with a real-time insights engine.

AppOnBoard revealed that it had seen particularly strong usage of its App Store Demo in India and Brazil. That may not be surprising given that a “Try Now” option is particularly useful in countries where comprehensive mobile network or WiFi coverage may be lacking.

App Store Demo was first rolled out back in August with app developer partners Jam City, Scopely, Huuuge Games, and Simple Habit. More recently, FoxNext Games and Game Insight have shown off their 3D games, MARVEL Strike Force and Guns of Boom, using App Store Demo within Google Play Instant apps.

Anatoly Ropotov, CEO at Game Insight, added that conversion of app users presents one of the core challenges for most app developers. “By partnering with AppOnboard to build our Google Play Instant app, we were able to give potential players a taste of what Guns of Boom has to offer through an instant demo that faithfully reflects the game,” he said.
