Apple makes linking to privacy policy in app metadata mandatory

From October 3, 2018, Apple will require all new apps and app updates to include a link back to the developer’s privacy policy. The link will be shown in the app metadata, and the new rule seems to apply to all apps, regardless of connectivity.

A privacy policy metadata option was been mandatory for subscription apps already, and this has been extended across the App Store; but Apple will not remove apps that haven’t complied by a set date. Instead, the privacy policy metadata must be added when an app is updated, or a new app is released.

The privacy policy itself must inform app users what data is collected and how it is used. Additionally, it must detail if any data is kept and how users can deny this, plus list how third-party frameworks handle data privacy in the app.

Apple has not stated the consequences for not following the new rule.
