TikTok is reportedly getting ready to launch an augmented reality (AR) advertising format that rivals the likes of Snapchat’s Lenses.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the new AR effect could be used by brands to entice users to create and share videos with sponsored visual effects. It’s a more organic way to nurture engagement among the app’s users.
The AR effects interacts with the surrounding environment which lets brands integrate their content and images as part of a user-created video.
Digiday reported that this could take the form of a car maker sharing branded content of a vehicle driving along a kitchen table. Alternatively, branded mascots could feature in user videos.
