This holiday season, in-app shopping is up 86% compared to mobile web

American shoppers are spending an average 189% more this holiday season compared to 2019. That’s according to research released by Button which found that shoppers were also buying 86% more in-app than using mobile web.

There was a 94% increase in app installs during the holiday season compared to the average this year.

Around a quarter of users who installed shopping apps during Cyber Week also made a purchase using these apps.

The findings by the mobile commerce platform also reveal that Black Friday shoppers tended to shop during the early hours of the day, whilst Cyber Monday and Thanksgiving consumers shopped later at night.

In terms of number of orders, electronics were the most purchased category, followed by home supplies, kids products, sports and fashion items.
