HQ Trivia, the quiz app which has attracted a dedicated fanbase, has announced the release of an Apple TV app. The news was released via the company’s official Twitter feed, stating the app is available now through the App Store.
The TV app’s release comes when figures are pointing to a decline in the app’s popularity. Figures from App Annie show the former number one trivia app in the U.S. has dropped to number 10, and from the 151st most popular overall app to position 585.
HQ Trivia’s CEO Rus Yusupov tweeted a response to a Techcrunch article on HQ Trivia’s sudden growth halt, writing:
“Games are a hits business and don’t grow exponentially forever. HQ has massive early traction and still millions playing daily. Also developing new game formats, one of which we think is really special and complements Trivia nicely. More soon!”
The Apple TV app is a natural extension of HQ Trivia’s mobile app, due to television being the home of hundreds of other game and quiz shows; but whether it appeals to more players remains to be seen.
