Instagram has announced new monetisation options for creators on its IGTV platform and Instagram Live.
One such addition are so-called Badges. Creators can add Badges to their Live shows which can be purchased by fans during a broadcast.
Fans already had the option to donate or like and comment on videos, but Badges make it easier for fans to respond immediately to the content they enjoy by supporting their favourite creators.
Badges appear next to a creator’s name during a live video.
Views on Instagram Live rose 70% during February and March driven by coronavirus lockdowns.
Among popular creators on the platform are chefs, artists, dancers and businesses.
For now, the feature is still undergoing testing with a handful of creators but Instagram said it plans to roll out Badges in the US, Brazil, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Turkey, Spain, and Mexico.
For early access, creators can sign up here.
But that’s not all, Instagram also added adverts to IGTV and to share revenues with its influencer community.
The video ads are specifically designed for mobile and are up to 15 seconds long.
Instagram will be testing skippable versions and other formats over the coming year.
Previously, the popular photo app rolled out Live Shopping which lets creators and brands tag products in live videos.
