As YouTube ventures into shorter video formats, the company is now testing a feature that lets users share segments of videos and live streams.
It’s called “Clips” and is currently being trialled in beta.
Only a small number of gaming channels have been given access.
Clips will let users clip specific sections of videos – from 5 to 60 seconds in length – and share them with others. The clip also carries a unique URL that can be copied manually.
It’s expected that Clips could be useful for both gamers and creators on the platform as more users want bite-sized, smaller content snippets.
However, they won’t be available for videos made for children, live-streams that are longer than 8 hours, premieres and where content is deleted or private.
