Installs in mental wellness apps saw record-breaking increases during the pandemic lockdowns according to the latest data from Sensor Tower.
Wellness, fitness and diet app installs exceeded 200 million in April 2020 and 1.2 billion during the year.
EMEA was the larger market for wellness apps in 2020, accounting for 36% of installs from the top apps within the category.
APAC followed with 35%.
Monthly spending in wellness apps remained above $100 million even after March and during the first 10 months of 2020 consumers spent a whopping $1.1 billion in wellness apps.
North American users represented 53% in consumer spending, followed by EMEA at 30%.
And though installs have slowed since Q2 2020, top apps in the category are predicted to reach over 1 billion worldwide installs in 2021, which is a rise of 42% over 2019.
At the same time, consumer spending in wellness apps is predicted to remain high – 15% higher than in 2019 at $1.6 billion.
