Twitter has been assessing different reaction modes for a while and now it appears the social network could be adding emoji reactions to let users up- and down-vote tweets.

It’s a feature that’s similar to Reddit – essentially a thumbs up or down emoji to signal whether users liked or disliked a post.

The option gives people an additional way to engage with tweets and score posts to the top of the Twitter charts.

Good tweets that receive more upvotes would be visible to a greater number of users while abusive or negative posts could be buried.

However, this could result in a greater number of people upvoting controversial tweets.

What’s not entirely clear is if Twitter is also adding emojis such as “funny”, “sad” or “like” in the shape of faces or hearts. One or the other seems plausible, but both may send mixed messages.

It remains to be seen if the addition can give the platform some new momentum among its user base.
