China’s National Cyberspace Administration ordered the removal of 105 apps last week in an effort to crackdown on pornography and inappropriate content.
Among the apps that were removed was TripAdvisor China but it’s not entirely clear why the app was removed.
The agency did not offer a detailed breakdown as to the reasons for removal.
It’s been speculated that the reason is that China is unable to control the user-generated content on such apps which means the country is unable to limit free speech.
The agency said it had tested some 440,000 apps of which 1,336 required changes and 105 needed to be removed.
