Consumer spending in travel apps grew 30% during the summer compared to the first quarter of the year, according to App Annie data.
In the UK, the Trainline app saw a 105% jump in downloads during the measurement period.
Google Maps, Booking.com and Airbnb were the top three travel apps during the summer season.
Meanwhile, Ryanair saw a growth in user time spent in-app as lockdown restrictions eased and more people fled the UK to travel abroad.
However, App Annie remarks that it was the only airline to feature among the top apps.
Other notable apps to feature among the top 10 travel apps included Navigation for Google Maps Go, Maps.me, TripAdvisor, RingGo, 3Track and searchforsites.
With fears of a potential second lockdown due to coronavirus intensifying, the autumn and winter quarters may look quite different for travel apps again.
However, the industry remains hopeful that the situation could stabilise through additional testing and a swift roll-out of a vaccine.
