Travel app downloads jumped 14% to 143 million in H1 2021 compared to the previous year as a growing number of consumers are getting vaccinated and return to travel.
That’s according to new data released by Sensor Tower which shows that travel apps were seriously impacted by pandemic lockdowns but recovered during summer 2021.
Booking.com reached almost 3 million in downloads in Europe during the sunny season this year.
Average downloads of the popular travel booking app spiked to 1.7 million installs per month compared to Tripadvisor, Trivago, Skyscanner and Aviasales which had 265k installs per month combined.
In vacation rentals, AirBnB surpassed 6 million installs during H1 2021 as user adoption reached new heights at 1.2 million downloads.
Ryanair was the leading airline app with 720k average monthly downloads in June through to August 2021 compared to 240k downloads on easyJet, Wizz Air and S7 Airlines.
It’s not yet clear whether the boom in travel app installs is going to last beyond 2021, but the pandemic has driven a growing number of users to adopt mobile apps.
