TikTok appears to be closing in on a new deal that could make US user data safer. Reuters reports that the group is discussing a deal with Oracle to store its US data to keep it separate from China databases.
The move comes in light of ongoing struggles to meet criticism over Bytedance’s practices to share information with China on request.
Under the Trump administration the app had come close to being banned due to privacy issues.
Back then, Oracle came close to buying the app.
And even though that didn’t happen, the concerns surrounding user data and what is done with it continued.
TikTok has been hugely successful in the US and there’s little doubt that the company wants to do whatever it can to remain relevant in a market that’s evolving fast as competitors such as Instagram and YouTube are quick to fix the short-form video gap.
