TikTok still top app for downloads while shopping app usage jumps in Southeast Asia

TikTok was the top non-gaming app for downloads worldwide. That’s according to the latest data from Sensor Tower highlighting the most downloaded apps for October 2021.

China led the number of installs at 17% followed by the US at 11%.

Instagram was the second most-downloaded non-gaming app at over 56 million installs. That’s a 31% rise over October 2020. It was led by India (39%) and Brazil (6%).

Other notable apps included Facebook, WhatsApp And Telegram.

Snapchat, Messenger, shopping app Meesho, Spotify and video editor CapCut all featured among the top ten.

Shopping app installs in India reached over 80 million in July 2021 which Meesho contributing 12 million.

In collaboration with MAAS, Sensor Tower also showed that usage of the leading ten shopping apps were up 40% in Q2 2021 compared to Q1 2019 in Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam.

It signals a steady growth in monthly active users in these regions.

In Southeast Asia, monthly shopping app download spiked in April 2020 but have since dropped back to 2019 levels.
