WhatsApp has retained its top position as the most downloaded app globally during Q1 2019 across the Apple and Google Play Store.
According to new data from Sensor Tower’s Store Intelligence platform, WhatsApp came out top with over 223 million installs, followed by Messenger with nearly 209 million installs.
Among other top performing apps were TikTok, Facebook and Instagram.
Sensor Tower noted that the top 10 apps were the same as those in the previous quarter with the top five ranking the same as before.
Taking a closer look at the individual app stores, TikTok was the most downloaded app in the Apple App Store during Q1 2019 with over 33 million installs, marking its fifth consecutive quarter of being the top app by installs. YouTube ranked second, followed by Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger.
Twitter reached a new milestone with 11.7 million App Store downloads marking the highest since Q1 2015 and securing the app position 16 in the charts.
WhatsApp was the most downloaded app on Google Play worldwide in Q1 2019 with nearly 199 million installs, followed by Messenger, TikTok, Facebook and Instagram.
A notable entry to the top 20 ranking was YouTube Kids which had over 29 million downloads, an increase of 291% quarter-on-quarter.
