Spotify tests in-app podcast production tool

Spotify is reportedly testing a few feature that lets users record, edit and publish their own podcasts from within the app.

The feature has already been available in New Zealand as of June and it seems initial testing has gone well enough to roll it out to other audiences globally.

However, a date for a wider launch has not yet been announced.

It means that budding podcast makers no longer need to access third-party tools to record and publish their podcasts.

When users click on the Plus button next to “Your Library”, they’ll be presented with an option to “Record podcast”.

Once tapped, they’ll see a landing screen and a record button to begin recording audio.

Clips can be edited once they finish recording. Users can add background music, add titles and descriptions to their recorded episodes and tag other songs or podcasts.

In time, Spotify could also be adding analytics to the feature.

The release follows Spotify’s acquisition of podcast maker Anchor in 2019.
