The mobile gaming market remained fairly stable between Q1 2021 and Q4 2020, with Simulation genres gaining in importance.
That’s according to a new report from GameRefinery which also shows that role-playing games and strategy genres are losing momentum in China and Japan, while sports and shooter genres were on the rise.
The same report also found that Roblox Corporation continues to dominate the market in the US.
Roblox continues to dominate the US iOS charts with a 5.52% market share, taking the number 1 spot past Playrix (- 0.49%) and King (- 0.32%), both down versus Q4 2020.
The Collectible Albums gameplay mechanic which is a way for the player to see their collection of characters/items/stories/voice lines etc., in a specific place, has been utilised by 70% of the US top 100 grossing games – a 14% rise compared to last year.
Battle Pass adoption also remained high, with over 25% of the top grossing 100 games in Japan having Battle Passes.
