Reddit announced that it will be shutting down its TikTok short-video competitor app Dubsmash.

Acquired only last year, Reddit plans to incorporate the app’s features into its main app to boost video engagement.

The app provides features and tools that users can use to crate videos, add music clips, filters and effects.

Dubsmash will continue to be around until February 2022.

The company said it noted a sizeable increase in the hours of content watched on Reddit with a 70% rise in overall hours watched and a 30% increase in daily active video viewers.

As of February 2022, Dubsmash will no longer be available for download from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Dubsmashers will be able to share their content to the Reddit community.

At the same time, the company rolled out new video creation tools for its main platform including a new camera that offers features such as changing the speed of a recording.

Other tool additions are a new editing screen to add stickers and apply filters or voiceovers.
