Some mobile users are spending an average four hours per day on their devices, according to research from mobile analytics experts Ap Annie.

The Q3 2021 Mobile Pulse Top Apps and Games Rankings report reveals that users in Indonesia spent a whopping 5.5 hours on their phones every day, followed by Brazil and South Korea. The US ranked among the leading 10 markets at 4.2 hours while the UK scored 4 hours.

So which apps are consumers spending all their time in.

According to App Annie’s download data, TikTok was the most downloaded app globally during the third quarter of 2021.

It appeared in the top five apps in the US, UK, France, Germany, Russia, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, India and Singapore.

TikTok announced that it surpassed the 1 billion active user mark in September this year, which would equal to one in eight people globally using the app.

By the end of 2021 it expects to reach 1.2 billion monthly active users.

Other top apps included WhatsApp, Facebook and Telegram but also video conferring tools like Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

What’s clear when looking at the non-gaming breakdown of top apps is that communication and social are leading categories.

My Talking Angela 2 was a top mobile game during the quarter.

Other outstanding games included Count Masters and ROBLOX. Pokémon UNITE was a breakout game in South Korea by download.
