Google has announced YouTube Shorts – a short-form video feature that’s to rival TikTok.
Shorts allow creators to shoot short videos using their mobile phones.
Much like TikTok, videos are only 15 seconds in length and include a choice of background music.
Google is among many social media companies that have jumped on the short-form video app bandwagon. Following the success of TikTok, Instagram launched a similar tool called Reels.
YouTube Shorts provide plenty of exciting features to creatively edit videos including multi-segment camera functions to string videos together and a timer.
What may help Google stand out is its algorithm to match content to user behaviour and previously viewed videos.
Following the ban on TikTok in India, that’s precisely where Shorts will be rolled out first.
