Downloads of business and video conferencing apps skyrockets due to Covid-19 lockdowns

Downloads of video conferencing apps continued to increase throughout March and April as the COVID-19 led to country-wide lockdowns the world over.

That’s according to new data from analytics platform App Annie based on data from apps including: ZOOM Cloud Meetings, Discord, Skype, Microsoft Teams, Google Duo, Houseparty, Hangouts Meet, DingTalk, Cisco WebEx Meetings, WeChat Work, VooV Meeting, GoToMeeting, and Marco Polo Video Walkie Talkie.

The demand for apps such as Zoom, Skype and Houseparty is driven by more people working from home and looking for ways to stay in touch with family and friends.

Global weekly downloads of business apps on iOS and Google stores stood at 33.3 million in October 2019 but were up to 80 million in April 2020.

Meanwhile, weekly total downloads for video conferencing apps stood at 4.8 million in October 2019 but rose to a whopping 52.1 million in April 2020.
