Jens-Fabian leads the product and design teams at RevenueCat, the leading provider of tools for monetizing apps through in-app purchases.
In your own words, what’s your role in the app business right now?
I help app developers make more money by building infrastructure and tools to monetize their apps.
How did you end up working in apps?
I always believed that we would eventually do everything on the phone. When I moved back to Berlin and started looking for a new job, I ended up at the health and fitness app 8fit — and the rest is history, as they say.
What are you most excited about in apps right now?
I am most excited about AI lowering the barriers to entry for people to build apps and enabling entirely new use cases.
Is there anyone you’d like to shout out to who has influenced your journey in the app industry?
Thomas Petit, a well-known consultant and a peer from my 8fit days. Guillem Ros, founder of Hevy and also a former peer at 8fit — one of the people who pointed me to RevenueCat before I joined. Lisette Fabian, my former boss at 8fit and now a professional coach.
What’s in your app tech stack?
RevenueCat, of course. Otherwise, in terms of tools, I love Expo, Supabase, and Cloudflare.
What do you like most about working in apps?
The fact that the impact of apps is very broad, touching potentially literally every person in the world.
What one thing would you change about the app industry?
I would like Apple to relinquish some control over the App Store.
If you weren’t working in apps what would you be doing?
Product management in B2B SaaS or development tools.
iOS or Android?
iOS.
What apps have been most useful to you over the last year?
Hevy.
Is there anything else we should know about you?
I’m a world traveler — I’ve visited more than 60 countries and lived on four continents (that was before having kids…).
