Apple is concentrating on improving performance of the Apple Watch with WatchOS 3. Promising app launches up to seven times faster than in WatchOS 2, the new software also includes a selection of new features, and ways for the developer to integrate their apps with the watch.
Developers will get access to the speaker and the Digital Crown, be able to use SpriteKit, SceneKit, and Game Center to make games more playable, plus CloudKit for sharing data across devices.
WatchOS 3 has performance improvements, and various new features for developers
Apple Pay has been expanded to include Apple Watch apps, plus there are new APIs to control smart home appliances using HomeKit. Fitness app developers can utilize the Apple Watch’s heart rate sensor, the gyroscope, and the accelerometer.
The Watch now has its own Dock, which is where the speed increases will be most evident. It contains a list of favorite apps, all of which can be accessed instantly, and that contain live, up-to-date information. Other new features include additional watch faces (Minnie Mouse joins Mickey, and a new fitness-based face are among them), a special fitness mode for wheelchair users, and Scribble, a touch-based character input system for messaging.
WatchOS 3 is available now as a developer preview, and will be ready for public release in the fall. Find out more by visiting Apple’s dedicated website here.
