Delta Air Lines iPad app closes for business

Delta Air Lines has has removed its iPad optimized app from the Apple App Store, effectively discontinuing its use. The airline is recommending its customers use the iPhone version of the Fly Delta app, which also works on the larger tablet.

The news was given to customers by email, and confirmed in a statement to Venturebeat, where Delta said it wanted to deliver, “A consistent customer experience through the channels our customers use most.”

This certainly suggests the iPad Fly Delta app wasn’t attracting the user numbers it once did, echoing the tablet market itself, where sales of the devices have fallen over the past few years.

Delta released its iPad app in 2013, with functionality including booking and managing flights, along with support for Apple’s Wallet feature, then known as Passbook. Delta has continued to add new and interesting features to its iPhone app, including the chance to automatically check passengers in to flights.
