Facebook is currently testing a feature that allows brands and retailers to demonstrate their products in front of a live audience. For customers, the live video addition means that they can screenshot an item they want from a video and request it from the seller via Messenger. Payments can be taken directly via Messenger.
The social media network confirmed that it was testing the feature with selected vendors in Thailand – one of its most active countries for Marketplace – to TechCrunch.
According to initial feedback, the addition of live video helps customers to gain a better understanding of a product’s features than photos alone.
Facebook Live also enables shoppers to ask questions immediately.
Although Facebook allows select retailers to join a waitlist to access the feature, it currently has no plans to test Live video for product demonstrations outside of Thailand.
For the company, an active Marketplace makes for a more attractive platform for advertisers.
