Major US mobile phone carriers including AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile have come together to launched a mobile authentication platform that aims to boost mobile security.
Dubbed the Mobile Authentication Taskforce, the platform has been launched to help protect consumers and businesses against theft of identify, but also fraud, fraudulent purchases and data theft.
It is being tested over the coming few weeks and should be available by the end of the year.
The taskforce aims to boost safety by rolling out a next-generation mobile authentication platform, which aims to replace two-factor authentication.
As part of the platform, a cryptographically verified phone number and profile data is only delivered to apps once the user gives his/her consent.
Other features such as verified mobile numbers, IP addresses, SIM card attributes, phone number tenure and phone account type are also considered.
Additionally, the taskforce has guaranteed that the solution will include advanced analytics as well as machine learning.
Developers can then submit apps through the blockchain-based solution to ensure enhanced app integrity.
