Dating app Hinge has launched a new feature called We Met, with which it wants to quantify exactly how many in-app and messaging communications turn into actual meet ups. It’s the first app of its type to try and assess the success of its platform by asking its users.
The app will approach those who match after a few days, and ask if after sharing phone numbers, the two went out on a date. If the answer is yes, then another question will follow on whether they plan to meet again.
Hinge has published statistics from its beta trial stating 90% of first dates arranged through the app were good, and 72% said the second was also great. Hinge says that by understanding if the dates went well, it can help the app match people of the same type.
Adding the We Met feature data into the mix will help refine the algorithms at work. It assesses real-world engagement, rather than in-app engagement. Hinge launched We Met on October 16, and it should be part of the latest iOS app, with Android to follow.
