Location intelligence company Foursquare has signed a multi-year partnership with Uber, supplying the on-demand ride-hailing service with Foursquare Places points of interest data. The two companies have an established relationship already, with Uber’s services being available through the Foursquare app, but this new deal deepens the integration.
Emil Michael, CBO at Uber, said:
“The breadth and accuracy of Foursquare’s location intelligence is impressive. With the ability to customize location data, we can make the user experience even better for Uber riders and drivers around the globe.”
In a blog post, Foursquare’s Mike Harkey, VP of business development, wrote:
“Foursquare will enable Uber to customize, improve and increase the breadth of our non-personal POI location data to enhance Uber’s rider and driver experience. Also, these modifications will also be incorporated into Foursquare’s venue database going forward. It’s a natural fit for us to partner with Uber as a POI supplier.”
In the U.S., Foursquare has gained exclusivity to supply POI data to Uber, which includes names of businesses, location data, and restaurant, bar, and shopping information. Foursquare’s data will be used internationally too, but not exclusively.
