Mobile video-on-demand streaming app Quibi was downloaded and installed 1.15 million times in just seven days, according to data by Apptopia.
The rise in downloads is likely due to a growing number of people viewing content on their mobile devices in light of COVID-19 lockdowns.
To date, Quibi’s revenue from in-app purchases remains low at $3,000 over a week, but the company is attracting additional cash from advertising.
The majority of installs (87%) came from the US, followed by Canada (6%).
Downloads were evenly split between iOS and Android devices.
Apptopia also pointed out that streaming app Disney+ was installed 12.5 million times by the time it launched in the US only. That’s a significant difference given that Quibi launched internationally.
However, comparing an internationally renowned brand like Disney+ to Quibi is hardly a fair match.
Quibi closed a $750 million funding round in March 2020, bringing its total to $1.75 billion.
The app focuses on short-form videos and mini shows.
Investors in the company include Alibaba Group Holding, Walt Disney Co, Sony, Warner, Fox and Viacom among others.
