Travel app downloads fall 20% on back of coronavirus outbreak

Travel apps are taking a hit following the coronavirus outbreak.

According to an analysis of 40 million app installs shared by AppsFlyer, downloads, bookings and revenue on travel apps were down following the outbreak.

Downloads of travel apps dropped 20% globally following the outbreak with APAC taking a much bigger hit at 25% versus EMEA (18% drop).

Meanwhile revenues fell 21%.

Bookings on travel apps fell 13% worldwide during the measurement period – APAC saw bookings decline by 22% whilst EMEA took a 9% hit.

Peculiarly, there’s been a surge in downloads and usage of entertainment apps following the outbreak.

AppsFlyer reported that entertainment apps noted a 62% rise in activity and casino gaming apps in China spiked 56%.
