TikTok is apparently considering to add a curated content section similar to Snapchat’s Discover section.
According to a report by the Financial Times, TikTok plans to add a stream featuring highlights to display original videos from popular creators alongside professionally published content.
Moderators would be able to control the video viewing experience for users and ensure that advertisers have their ads placed close to appropriate content.
As the app continues to expand, it’s trying to diversify its advertising offering and maximise its revenues.
However, it’s not entirely clear how moderators will select the content. The app prides itself in letting users decide what’s popular or not, so adding a curated section may be somewhat contradictory to its message.
At the same time, if TikTok manages to generate more revenues this way it will have all been worth it.
In addition, the company could attract big publishers to add exclusive content or invest in original videos.
