App Business

Snap announced a series of changes to its app at its recent Snap Partner Summit.

Developer features

These include new and updated products for app developers across its Snap Kit, Snap Games and Bitmojis.

With Camera Kit, for example, developers can now add AR camera features to their apps to enrich their users’ experiences. Camera Kit utilises Lenses built using the Lens Studio.

One app that utilised the integration is Triller which now lets users create music videos with Snapchat lenses.

Other developer additions include Snap Minis – a way for developers to add HMTL5 to their Android or iOS apps. Minis integrate within Snapchat conversations which makes it easier to coordinate between friends.

There are also Dynamic Lenses for real-time information that links between third-party apps and Snapchat Lenses.

Bitmoji for Games adds 3D Bitmoji avatars to third-party games.

Snap also launched Bitmoji Paint which allows players to contribute to a single collage. Developers can build games for their Snap platform this way.

Other additions for developers include the Snap Augmented Reality Platform.

Wellbeing features

In addition, the app maker announced further changes to its Here For You feature, which provides tips and resources on mental wellbeing and was launched at the beginning of Covid-19 lockdowns in March.

Now, Snapchat has partnered with popular mediation app Headspace to provide more content and mini meditations.

It also launched a documentary series from Barcroft called “Mind Yourself” that follows the mental health journey of 10 young people.

It’s now also easier than ever before for Snapchatters to alert the app if they worry about their friends on the app. The alert service then connects them to an emergency service and counsellor.

Snap Originals

And that’s not all, with half of US Gen Z users now watching videos on Snapchat, the app maker revealed a string of new shows made exclusively for Snapchat. Some of these shows are immersive featuring augmented reality technologies.

Other upgrades include a news feature called Happening Now, an Action Bar to provide easier navigation of the app, Places which acts like a personalised Snap Map, Topics to share Stories, and Story Replies.
