Snap is apparently planning a redesign of its Spectacles to include two cameras. According to unnamed sources, the company will be offering Spectacles that include two cameras for users to create videos with augmented reality effects and 3D-style photos.
The new Spectacles will be shipped as a limited edition of just 24,000 pairs. That is significantly lower than the over 80,000 pair it had ordered of its second version Spectacles (a slightly upgraded version from its original Spectacles launched in 2016).
Although Snap did not release official sales figures for its original and second version Spectacles, previous reports suggest that thousands of units went unsold. By scheduling a smaller order of its next generation Spectacles, the company may be able to manage its product inventory more effectively.
However, the upgraded glasses come at a price. Second generation Spectacles were already sold at double the cost of the original version.
Meanwhile, CEO Evan Spiegel previously announced plans to develop AR headsets for Snapchat users.
