BlaBlaCar, the long-distance ridesharing app and platform, has struck a deal to acquire Russia and Ukraine-based bus ticketing platform Busfor. The move significantly increase BlaBlaCar’s inventory of bus carriers, and improve the convenience of booking buses online in the region.
The undisclosed deal comes after Paris-headquartered BlaBlaCar broadened its offer beyond carpooling and began integrating buses into its marketplace. It is now introducing its own branded bus service, BlaBlaBus, in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Italy.
Nicolas Brusson, co-founder and CEO, said:
“We are thrilled to join forces with a leading regional player that has strong operating results and state-of-the-art technology.
“By growing a multimodal bus and carpooling offer together and by accelerating the transition from offline to online travel booking in Russia and the CEE region, we can better serve bus carriers and passengers, and improve long-distance mobility across the region.”
In the press release announcing the acquisition, BlaBlaCar said Busfor’s 7,000 bus carriers across Russia, Ukraine and Poland will reinforce its position as “the leading road mobility provider in the region”.
The company said the region is starting to shift to booking buses online and that it is “ideally placed to seize this sizeable market opportunity”.
