Opera Mediaworks looks to give mobile video ad campaigns a boost with its Native Video Fund

Opera Mediaworks has created the Native Video Fund, a program designed to help brands and advertisers create new and exciting mobile video ad campaigns. A selection of big-name participants have already been announced, and the first campaigns to come out of the Native Video Fund will launch over the next few months.
Each of the brands involved can potentially receive up to $100,000 in total. This can be in a single payment for use in media, or split right down the middle, with $50,000 going to media, and the other $50,000 put towards the creation of the native video ads. Opera Mediaworks list of partners currently includes the agencies responsible for Adidas, Lenovo, the U.S. Navy, Walt Disney, and General Motors.
Opera has been quite active on the mobile native front lately having launched its own private, premium, native exchange, with a number of network partners, just last month.
Mike Owen, EVP of North American sales for Opera Mediaworks, said:

“Instead of just sitting around and waiting for change, we set out to solve the problem of video ads that don’t work for consumers on mobile. We’re thrilled to be joined by such an elite group of brands and agencies that are committed to shifting the way mobile creative is developed for native video advertising.”

Will Kassoy, Opera Mediaworks’ CMO, added:

“Despite tremendous growth in mobile video advertising, there still is a huge opportunity for creative resonance – especially in social and native environments with video. The Fund frees our ad partners to develop mobile-first creative, push the boundaries of what mobile video previously has been and show the world what it should be with very little risk.”

Each 15-second native video ad will be powered by Opera’s AdColony Instant-Play HD video technology, and Opera Mediaworks’ creative team will be working with all partners. Following the launch, each campaign will be tracked and evaluated, with the research gathered eventually published in an industry-first study on mobile native video ads.
