According to research carried out by Leadbolt, a mobile advertising platform, app downloads increased by a massive 42% on Thanksgiving day this year. While November 27 saw the biggest increase in numbers, Leadbolt’s figures show the entire holiday weekend was a success for the mobile industry.
From November 27 to December 1, Leadbolt saw a 26% increase in mobile app usage, a 20% increase in engagement with advertising campaigns, and a 20% average increase in app installations and downloads. Leadbolt arrived at these figures after tracking mobile ad campaigns and overall app usage, then compared the results with non-holiday period performance.
Leadbolt’s CEO and founder Dale Carr explained the reason for the spike:
“Apps went free for that day and for sure the fact that people are not at work and spending time with their families, contributed to the spike in download activity. Consumers had more free time to download and try new apps. People also had a chance to swap app recommendations and play more games.”
Dale also took the opportunity talk about some of the trends across Leadbolt’s network that all point to the increasing importance of mobile advertising:
