Ivan Carrillo is a key share holder and managing partner at Kimia. He has been with the company for over 5 years and oversees the traffic supply department including direct publishers, affiliates and internal media buying teams. Ivan brings 15 years of hands on experience as one of the top affiliates in the performance space before embarking on his strategic role at Kimia. He is considered a point of reference in the affiliate community and brings insight and vision to the evolution of the market.

What is Kimia and how are you positioned in the market?

Kimia is a Premium online advertising network that brings together high performing advertisers and publishers worldwide. We are a technology first company that has been in the mobile marketing space for over 10 years and have spent the last 8 as network. Due to the aforementioned we’ve made our mark as a company of reference in the mobile subscription vertical, where we continue to push the limits with opening of new markets and discovery of new players. However, we’ve also put our technology and knowledge to work on additional verticals including Lead Generation, Nutra, Health and Beauty, and Apps.

What types of clients do you work with?

First and foremost we always work as direct as possible with both advertisers and publishers. Our goal is to provide the highest quality traffic to our advertisers in order to get the highest possible payouts for our publishers. We work with different models including CPA, CPL, CPS, CPI, and CPM to make it as easy as possible to make money with Kimia.

What geographies are you focused on and where are you seeing the most growth?

In this business the geographical focus is always changing depending upon what products are hot in certain markets, regulation restrictions in different geos, traffic availability/price to name a few. That’s why we have native local sales people covering the globe including Latam, Asia, Russia, Eastern Europe, US, MENA, and India. We are in touch with the local markets to get the best converting products and traffic sources at the local level. That being said, our top performing markets at the moment include India region, SEA, MENA and a few Western Europe markets. Hit us up for specifics!

What are your main tips for successful mobile affiliate marketing?

  • Don’t give up easily but know when your campaign is not a winner — it’s important to test, adjust and readjust. But if you’ve been hammering a campaign well past your budget and it’s not working, try a new geo or product
  • Talk to your Account Manager at the network you feel comfortable with. It’s the networks job to help you make money. They have insight into the markets that can prove to be very valuable and save you time and money.
  • Focus on the small wins. Everyone who is out there touting 5 figures a day started with some period of losses and small increments until finding their special combination. This is not an overnight success business.
  • Networking — go to shows, join groups in Facebook and Skype. Go to all the Affiliate Meet-ups. Learn from peers.

What are the major roadblocks for mobile publishers right now?

More than roadblocks I would say it is a time with high stakes and great opportunities with the explosion of social traffic. These sources provide great targeting capabilities as well as high CPM prices and strict rules. Publishers need to be extremely careful playing in this area. The sheer amount of offers and verticals out there now can also be overwhelming….so knowing where to focus and what to test your money on is also difficult. Again, speak to your network, read forums like mobyaffiliates to get industry insight and knowledge.

Among all types of ad targeting what types do you believe are essential?

Depending upon the traffic source and campaign type you are targeting this can vary greatly. Obviously for mobile content, carrier and handset is key. If you are looking for test drives in a certain city, zip code is key. For Apps it’s device, language, browser. On Facebook, Lookalike campaigns can be great. Our platform allows for vertical, country, carrier, device, browser, operating system, time of day, and language,
