Instagram is currently testing a new way to move through posts that involves tapping rather than scrolling. A screenshot by Instagram user Suprateek Bose shows that the tapping feature is currently being tested in Instagram’s Explore section.
Upon questioning by TechCrunch, the company said it continued to work on ways to improve the app for users. However, it did not confirm whether tapping would be rolled out across the entire app any time soon.
As usual, it may depend on the success of initial beta tests.
Admittedly, tapping through photos may be a quicker way to view them and some users consider scrolling a more tiring action. However, it’s unclear if users can be persuaded to give up scrolling after many years of using the app.
Additionally, when tapping through photos it may easier for users to tap twice, accidentally liking a photo they did not intend to.
