Google will be changing the weighting of its app reviews on the Play store, according to a recent announcement at its I/O developer conference.
The company said it will be lending more weight to fresher reviews to reflect more recent opinions. Instead of a lifetime average of reviews, ratings will now weigh more recent reviews more heavily.
This will be particularly useful for app developers who continue to address user concerns and roll out updated versions of their apps. It’s also a way of ensuring app updates and quality control are upheld.
The new ratings will be rolled out in August 2019.
Developers can already check out the revision in their Google Play Console.
