Golf hospitality startup Golfler has completed an early funding round, in which it raised an undisclosed amount of investment, ahead of a Series A round expected early next year. The app recently took second place in a Google-sponsored competition for sports apps, just three weeks after it launched in March.
The app connects golfers out on the course with the club’s restaurant, where food and drink can be ordered without visiting the actual hospitality suite, and a GPS beacon is activated on the course to help the waiter find them.
According to co-founder Jason Pearsall, this solves a problem for gold courses:
“Seventy-five percent of golf courses in the United States are losing money on food and beverage operations. On average, they lose $57,000 each year. Golfler makes the kitchen accessible to golfers on the course and helps courses make their food and beverage operations profitable.”

Cleverly, the app utilises beacons installed at each flag and hole on the course, which can predict how long it’ll take a group to play through, and even effectively tell users about the expected wait for service. No announcement has been made with regards to how the company intends to use the new funding.
Golfler provides the app for free, and makes money each time an order is placed. Golfler is available for both Android and iOS.
