Facebook’s mobile audience is growing, and mobile ad revenue reflects it

Facebook’s mobile usage, based on daily and monthly users, grew by significant amounts in 2016, according to figures released with the social network’s fourth quarter earnings. During December 2016, Facebook saw an average of 1.15 billion mobile daily active users, up by 23% over 2015, and mobile monthly users jumped 21% to 1.74 billion.

For the same period, its overall numbers were 1.23 billion and 1.86 billion respectively, showing the importance of mobile to Facebook. Similarly, advertising on mobile made up 84% of its total ad take in Q4 2016, a 4% increase over the same period the year before.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared an infographic through his personal Facebook account, revealing there are 1.86 billion active Facebook users, 600 million on photo sharing site Instagram, and another billion active on the Messenger platform. Messenger trails WhatsApp, which has 1.2 billion active users.
