Facebook re-engages users by revamping its photo album

Facebook is tapping into re-engagement by overhauling the way its photo album feature works. Having rolled out the additional capabilities, users will be able to add videos, text, location tags and follow their friends’ photo albums.
In addition, users should now be able to collaborate on photo albums more easily via the Android and iOS app. Essentially, friends can be added as contributors to create and share photo albums which can be tagged as “featured album” to be displayed on a profile.
It’s obvious the measure is part of a strategy to boost once forgotten photos, but also allow users to hold on to their scraps.
Just a few weeks ago, Instagram, the Facebook-owned social photo-sharing app, rolled out an Archive feature to store unfinished, old or momentarily unavailable photos.
The latest addition is a bit like that – an Archive on Facebook.
In addition, it may be the company’s answer to Google Photos, which lets users store photos for free as well as tag the people in them and share them.
It seems personalisation and re-engagement tactics have worked for Instagram and subsequently Facebook channels what works to then trial across the social media site.
Facebook has almost two billion worldwide users compared to Instagram’s 700 million. Hence, the company may be a little more careful in rolling out major revamps to its tools without testing them first.
