Instagram is testing a new feature to alert users when someone takes a screenshot of an Instagram Story. Should the feature eventually be introduced to the main app, it will imitate the way competing platform Snapchat deals with screenshots of its time-limited stories.
In a statement, Instagram said:
“We are always testing ways to improve the experience on Instagram and make it easier to share any moment with the people who matter to you.”
The feature has been spotted by various users, but doesn’t involve a notification. Instead, an icon appears next to a username in the list of those who have watched the Story. A warning will be given to the user when taking a screenshot, saying the next time one is taken the Story creator will be able to see.
It’s not certain the screenshot alert feature will become part of the main app yet.
