Snapchat improves media relations with news source deal

Snapchat has partnered with news platforms to provide journalists with pictures and videos surrounding breaking news stories. The intention is to assist news organizations with finding the best content already shared on Snapchat.

Snapchat’s partners include Storyful, TagBoard, SAM Desk, and NewsWhip. Snapchat is not charging for access to the new content, and no further charges will be made by its new partners either.

SAM Desk’s CEO James Neufeld explained to Axios why the partnership matters:

“The geography data from Snapchat is really trustworthy compared to other platforms, and it can be very targeted, which makes the content compliment text-based journalism on Twitter really well. Using our AI, journalists can combine the two sets of data to find facts and break news that much faster.”

Snapchat’s intention is to improve relationships with the news industry, according to Snap’s Stories Everywhere lead, Rahul Chopra.
