In this interview Sarat talks to us about app development and the big trends in the industry right now.
What is hedgehog lab and how are you positioned in the market?
hedgehog lab is a leading technology consultancy specialising in designing & building connected device software. Our positioning is around being a specialist app developer around post-PC technologies like mobile, tablet, wearables and connected devices.
What types of clients do you work with?
We have a great mix of clients. While we are known for working with FTSE 250 and Fortune 500 businesses, we also love working with start-ups who make up a significant proportion of our customers.
What sort of app development projects do you specialise in?
We specialise in making native apps across many verticals. We also have experience working with a dozen start-ups on helping launch their products including building out their entire technology stack which includes apps, web platforms, servers etc.
What geographies do you operate in and where do you see the most growth?
We have offices in Europe, USA and Asia. USA and Europe are exciting markets where there is still a lot of scope for growth that we are seeing in sectors like healthcare. Asia is hugely exciting because the market is quite nascent and we expect heavy growth in the next 5 years on it.
What do you think are the big trends in app development right now?
Instant messaging based or chat-based agents are an up and coming trend we are excited about. We didn’t think they would be as big as they are but with apps like Penny, Lark etc. providing a personal touch to what are serious tasks, it seems to be working.
What is your main tip for making an app development project a success ?
Ensure you set realistic expectations and budget. Trust your partner when they try to educate you and ensure you do your research.
What are your favourite apps and games?
I love Slack on iOS. It keeps me connected to my company. Tweetbot is another great app I always use. I have to ofcourse plug our own apps but 1Up, a social challenges app, we recently released is one of my favourites. I don’t play many games but Threes is hugely addictive.
What mobile devices do you use?
I primarily use an iPhone 6 as I am heavily invested in the iOS ecosystem but I quite like some of the new Android devices.
What do you think of the App Watch?
I love it. I think it changes the wearables space and is hugely useful for micro interactions and glances.
